2.5 Cardiac cycle

The heart’s function is a repetitive process:  the heart contracts and it rests,  it contracts again and then rests. This is called the cardiac cycle.

Figure 16 provides a simple overview of the cardiac cycle and the most characteristic features of this. Important characteristics are: heart sounds, ECG, heart valve function, blood volume and blood pressure.
